Is ginger bad for dogs? The Ginger Dog!

“Hey, can I talk to you?” I hear the question.

You say that you’ve been watching my ginger blog since it started (thanks for all the hits!), and that you’ve got something to ask me. And you’re really curious about a subject that, until now, I haven’t even thought about.

I’m sure I’m not the only dog blogger out there who’s gotten a lot of questions like that. And I’m also sure that I’m not the only one whose answers are the same.

The short answer is, you bet! You bet I’m going to talk to you. You bet I’m going to take your questions. I’m going to try my best to tell you why I think ginger is so great for dogs, and why you should, too.

You know what’s really weird? We’ve been reading each other’s blogs for a really long time, but somehow this is the first time I’m actually writing to you!

That’s right. I’m going to get my very own Ginger Dog blog, where I’m going to talk to you and all your dogs about every topic and question you ever have about ginger!

In fact, I’m so excited about it, I’m going to go on an extended leave from my current dog blog and spend some quality time on this brand new project. I’m going to take over your comments, too. I’m going to start answering all of your dog questions with my own expert, knowledgeable, and totally-not-biased-at-all take on the subject.

But before I get into all the details of this amazing project, I have one more thing to tell you:

Yes, I know you’re wondering, “So…why the name Ginger Dog?” And that’s a good question. Let me take you through the whole story of how I came up with the name.

Why Ginger?

The thing is, when I first started thinking about starting a ginger blog, it never even occurred to me to come up with a name.

I had just decided to start blogging about my ginger recipes. At that time, I was working with a very good gingerologist, one of my friends, who’s a trained nutritionist and a ginger expert. I told her I was going to start a blog about cooking with ginger, and I said I wanted to know how to use ginger in dog treats.

And she told me about the amazing health benefits of ginger, which I’ve listed above, plus a whole bunch of other amazing stuff.

And at that point, my ginger blog was going to be called “How to Use Ginger for Dog Health”, or something like that. But I had another friend (the one who gave me the original nickname for the blog) and she thought the name sounded a bit too serious for the topic I was covering.

So she suggested that we come up with a different name that was more fun, and that was easier to remember. We brainstormed for a few minutes, and she thought she had the perfect name. And she did!

“Ginger Dog” sounded so funny to me, and it also reminded me of something I had once read about.

But then I realized, what if she was right?

What if the name we came up with wasn’t a funny one at all? What if it was something dumb? What if it was something that sounded terrible? What if the name we came up with was actually bad for my dog?

I tried to think about the worst thing you could call a ginger dog, but I couldn’t think of anything at first. I honestly can’t think of anything worse than a normal dog.

And that’s when it came to me.

Yes, Ginger Dog! It sounded great! But there was no way I was going to write a whole blog about dogs and their health. That was too serious and too hard for me.

I thought about it for a while, and I realized that it was just what my blog was all about: how to use ginger for dog health. And that’s when I realized that I liked it. It was a silly, fun name. It was what my ginger blog was all about. And I’m so glad I’m not the only one who thought of it.

In fact, you’ve already heard from more dog bloggers than I’ve ever heard from before.

Many of them thought it was a great name. But there were others who told me it was a dumb name, and that they’d never even thought of that kind of name!

And that’s when I had to admit that I was one of them. I had to admit that the name I’d come up with sounded pretty dumb. And that’s when I finally decided to change the name to something that was a bit more serious.

Why Ginger?

And that’s when I realized that I’d been thinking about my blog all wrong.

I should have been thinking about it all the time!

I should have been thinking about it when I was cooking my ginger recipes. And I should have been thinking about it when I was writing the recipe posts, too.

I should have been thinking about it when I was sharing my ginger recipes on social media. I should have been thinking about it when I was talking about ginger with all my dog friends.

And I should have been thinking about it when I was answering all of your questions about ginger, too. I should have been thinking about the benefits of ginger every time I’d see my dog’s belly. And I should have been thinking about it when I’d
